How do fridges work? Fridges work by using a compressor to cool a sealed system of refrigerant gas. As the refrigerant is pressurized, it absorbs heat from the air inside the fridge and carries it away. The heat is released into the air outside the fridge by the condenser coils, cooling the air inside and keeping food and drinks cool.
